Here the Spirit is represented as the great agent in our salvation. We are sanctified by the Spirit. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils: 1 Tim. iv. 1. "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God t" Heb. ix. 14. '.' Here we have the whole Trinity. Christ offering himself, through the eternal Spirit, to God the Father. The Spirit possesses the attribute of eternity. "And the spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come: and whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely," Her. xxii. 17, III. There are many texts of Scripture, which not only imply the personality of the Holy Ghost, but which can never be explained upon any other principle. "Wherefore I say unto yon, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever spoaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."
